Abstract: This paper has 4 parts. Part 1 presents a comparative analysis of think tank  
evaluation methods. Part 2 introduces the AMI index system for comprehensive evaluation  
of global think tanks. Part 3 describes the current situation of global think tanks based on  
ranking by AMI. Part 4 proposes the construction of new type think tanks with Chinese  
characteristics under the global perspective.
